Why A Positive Mental Attitude Doesn’t Work

To move from where you are now to where you want to be, no larger obstacle stands in your way than your mindset. Your mindset is also the one thing that can take you to heights you have only dreamed of. In his book, Psycho Cybernetics, Dr. Maxwell Maltz explains how our mind is a success seeking mechanism which will provide us exactly what we train it to seek. The success mechanism as we know it is our subconscious mind and our subconscious mind is unable to act in a manner that is different from the way we perceive ourselves.

If we believe that we are born for greatness then our mind will produce greatness all by itself because the mind is a computer and a computer will always produce the results that the programmer desires if the programming is correct.

The reverse is also true, if we believe we always mess up, always fail, always fall short, than our success mechanism will provide what the programming requests. As computer programmers say, GIGO, garbage in, garbage out. This goes way beyond a positive mental attitude.

When a squirrel is born it has never experienced winter yet it knows to gather nuts for winter. Some refer to this as instinct, Maltz referred to it as a success mechanism. The squirrel’s mind knows how to help it live through the winter even though it has never experienced winter.

A bird, which has never experienced winter, knows to fly south for the winter. It not only knows to fly south, it knows which direction south is, it knows how far to fly to survive the winter and it knows when it has been there long enough to know when to fly back. It knows all of this without ever having been through a winter.

This points to the fact that the success mechanism is given to us by our Creator and if the success mechanism is given to us by our Creator would it not make sense that the success mechanism given to humans would be the best one of all considering we are all made in the image of the Creator?. The problem with humans is the fact that most of our programming has been done by others. Children who are told repeatedly that they would never amount to anything will come to believe that lie as truth. Once they see themselves in this light their success mechanism provides the result which matches the programming.

So it is not enough just to think positively. It might work for short periods of time but long term it’s the programming that produces the results. So if you are seeking different results and you do not see yourself as being a super successful individual, free from the slavery of being owned by your business then you need to change the programming that was given to you from others. Once you change the programming you will control your destiny 100%.

The most exciting part of Maltz’s discovery is that you are the programmer and you can program your success mechanism to give you any outcome that you desire.

A positive mental attitude is not enough.

You can think positive all you want but if the internal programming is flawed, just like a guided missile, you will move back to the original course of the programming. Think of your subconscious mind like a guided missile. A guided missile does not go straight after its target. It is constantly adjusting based upon the circumstances and the programming of the final destination. You are not different. If your programming is such that you believe deep down that you fail at everything you try, you can have a positive mental attitude but your subconscious mind will naturally take action that will still cause you to fail because, like the guided missile, your subconscious mind does not make an assessment of right and wrong, it simply produces the result of the programming.

Change the programming and change your life.

To your lifelong prosperity,
